• Orifice Tube- some vehicles require service done to the Orifice Tube, which meters the flow of Freon to the evaporator core. This tube also contains a filter to clear out contaminants before the Freon reaches the evaporator core. By using this system, the moisture that is commonly found in A/C units will be absorbed before it has a chance to flow through the Orifice Tube.
• Expansion Valve- some other vehicles require the A/C unit to be through an Expansion Valve. This Expansion Valve meters the flow of refrigerant to the evaporator core. This valve monitors temperature in order to determine the right amount of refrigerant to allow to pass through its orifice. The use of this system requires a receiver drier in order to take out any moisture the refrigerant may have before the refrigerant is allowed to pass through the Expansion Valve.
• Both- believe it or not, some vehicles require both of these systems to be used. This is especially common in vehicles with a rear air conditioning system.
